Great day for a housemoving in Amherst

Talk about a photo op. A revolving cast of dozens if not hundreds of people watched the last house on Kendrick Park -- all 90 tons of it -- moving to its new location on Gray Street.

  1. Nice pics! Is there some reason there are no more houses on Kendrick Park?
By the way - I like the blog's new color scheme!

  2. Great pictures and I love the video. I didn't realize it would move so fast.
I hope they do a good job on the new park. I've spent many evenings there at the boy scout tree lot, its a beautiful spot.

  3. You should have your crusty employer link to this page on days when there is breaking news.

I couldn’t help but notice even their “Newsroom blog/updated Monday Thru Friday” had zip. If Ch. 40 can trek up from Springfield, you would think Gazettenet could give this colorful story the (Internet) time of day.

  4. Over caffeine-ated alert! I'm over caffeine-ated.

As usual, Mary Carey is on the spot, camera and video recorder in hand, creating a journal.

Have you ever heard of someone moving their house because they wanted a new view or different neighbors? I haven't either.

Who owns the home? From whom did they purchase it? What did it cost to move? Maybe I'll just Google a little here and try to answer these questions myself, later.

The town of Amherst has waited decades for this property to be vacated so it can be turned into green space, a park according to the trust or will or whatever legal entity defines it.

Here's an idea, sell the underground rights to a for-profit underground parking garage developer that can holds up to 3000 vehicles. Or break the trust and partner with land developer to build green office buildings for white collar business that produce tax revenues. Or plant some more trees and install a few benches and let the boyscouts and truant high school students hang out there. Ok, enough coffee for me!

No commentary or pics of the poor garage? It moved too you know! You can see it being chased by the house down Main St.
